Chemistry Honours Service-Learning Module
Service Learning specialist, Joyce Sewry visited the Adventist School in Joza for the praxis component of the Chemistry Honours course. This is a compulsory service-learning module.
The students presented an interactive lecture-demonstration on gases in the atmosphere to the Grade 7 learners. Then the learners were dressed up as real scientists, with labcoats, safety goggles and gloves, to be safe when doing their own experiments. Both experiments, making slime and reacting magnesium ribbon in hydrochloric acid, involved an investigation. This introduced the learners to the scientific method. Both learners and Honours students learnt a lot from this experience
